Impact Startup of the Week: Grafren

This week’s startup develops a solution for the recovery of metals out of mining water.

Erik Khranovskyy talks about Grafren at Ignite Sweden Day 2019.

The mining industry discharges different metals that can seriously pollute water. These metals cannot be purified out of the water because its content is too low to make it economically viable and at the same time they cannot discharge them to the environment because it’s too toxic.

This week’s impact startup is Grafren, which develops a solution for the recovery of metals out of mining water. The startup is a Lead company and a spin-off from Linköpings Universitet.

– We remove the metals out of tons of water and concentrate them to the litres and this can be easily cleaned. This is how we contribute to a cleaner environment and better and efficient use of resources, explains its CEO and founder Erik Khranovskyy.

Their solution targets three Sustainable Development Goals: 6 (clean and accessible water),12 (responsible production and consumption), and 13 (climate action).
